Women played a large role in the ministry of Jesus, and made up two-thirds of the early church. And yet they don’t receive as much attention as the men and are frequently not even named. Since Luke wrote to the early church, his focus on women gives great insight into their unique struggles and perspectives.

     The Gospel of Luke contains more stories featuring women than the other three gospels combined. From an elderly mother-to-be, a betrothed teenage girl, to mothers who had lost their children and a woman who had spent all her money to be cured; the women in Luke’s Gospel are a diverse group. Jesus’ heart of compassion saw them all. He saw the desires of their hearts, their suffering, and their needs. His treatment of women in a culture that marginalized them was truly revolutionary. They would never be the same. After meeting Jesus, neither will we.
